Spoken Words. From across the sea, oceans vast, Hawaii past, lies the islands of the Philippines. Home of the jeepneys, halo halo, jollibee. Where pancit and rice is an everyday thing. Oh what a scene but to see only the now appearance isn’t quite everything. Filipinos are known for their amazing voices like the ones you hear on Youtube playing the uke, singing in harmony. And them beast dancers on ABDC. But is that all? Do those colors red, blue, and yellow on your shirt represent anything? Does it have the same meaning as the flag back home, hovering over everyone to see as a sign of victory? Or, are you just wearing it just because it looks nice? To show your Filipino pride. Well if the only way you can show it is by wearing it, then that’s not pride. You need to look beyond the appearance. Beyond the talents. Beyond the karaoke lyrics. You need to look into the roots, where you came from, where you originated. ‘Cause that’s where you’ll find, your Filipino spirit. Learn how to speak tagalog. Learn to say more than just “mahal kita.” ‘Cause you know what they say, “Ang hindi magmahal sa sariling wika, daig pa ang hayop at malansang isda.” (Jose Rizal) He who does not love his own language is worse than an animal and smelly fish. So take time, and learn about the past.  Trust me, it’s worth more than a tshirt, and it will definitely  last. Be that Balikbayan box and go back to the Philippines. Find out about your history. This is for us Filipinos, thanks for listening.
